This building is actually on the edge of downtown Athens, and Oconee Street, the road in front of it is heavily traveled. Athens is like that in many places: the old and decrepit juxtaposed with the brand new.
There are tons of properties like this all over Athens. At some point, the ones that aren't renovated will disappear, to be replaced by functionally superior but aesthetically paralytic buildings.
A lot of porches here are painted in excellent colors. This cheers things up immeasurably.
There are a lot of very informal porch tableaus here, probably because people can actually be seen hanging out on their porches.
